Another mixed weekend at Rivermead saw the Ladies sides again record a win, a loss and a draw. First game at 10am saw the 2’s play Marlow who last week drew against Maidenhead. The game started evenly matched but P&R had a couple of chances to get in the lead early on. Marlow drew first blood though with a goal from a short corner and although P&R created enough to be 3 or 4 goals up just couldn’t get the ball in the goal.
The 2nd half started well for P&R and Woody popped up to score her 3rd of the season to get the teams level. Sally Ilderton and Penny kept causing Marlow problems with some great runs and some excellent passing moves but Marlow seemed to get all the lucky breaks in the 2nd half. As P&R pushed forward for a winner the defence were left exposed and Marlow pushed on to score 3 in the last 20 minutes to leave the final score at 1-4. Next week sees the 2’s make the long trip to Banbury to get some vital points.
The 11.30 push back saw the 1’s meet Milton Keynes who were beaten 6-2 the week before. Phoenix turned on the energy this week and looked convincing all through the game. With Ash, Polar and Adie at the back the team looked rock solid, and the ladies were 2 up within 20 mins – Forest grabbing both goals in the first half.
The second half saw much the same with Cleo hitting a beauty into the bottom left hand corner from just inside the D and Dawn smashing one in from a short corner strike. The whole team worked really hard to keep the clean sheet with Mia in goal getting called into action in the last 5 minutes to deny a good chance from MK. Next week – the grudge match Sonning away at 10.30!!
The final ladies game saw the 3’s come back from last week’s disappointment to draw 1-1 against Abingdon who had run out 6-1 winners last weekend. Captain Carol Scearce led the way with the only goal of the game to get the 3’s off and running. They make the short trip to Henley next weekend to get some more points on the table!
