Ladies 2’s notch win

October 22nd, 2009 · No Comments

18/10 - Jax Batten reports………..

The Ladies 2’s got their first points of the season with a vital 3-0 win over Wokingham at Cantley on Saturday.  After 4 losses, the team formation was adjusted to shore up areas of concern and the strategy seemed to work wonders despite having to sacrifice a striker to play an extra defender in the back line.  The team definitely looked very positive from the start and within the first 15 minutes had gone 1-0 up with Tracy Averies striking from a short corner - the ball was deflected over the backboard but was judged to have been on target before the deflection and was allowed to stand.

Despite a 10 minute spell where P&R let Wokingham get back into the game, the visitors always looked the stronger side and they got their second from Chick.  Woody sealed the win in the second half with a back post tap in.  Chick again driving down the right and crossing to find Woody waiting to sweep home.  Wokingham increased their pressure in the 2nd half but the defence remained solid and let very few chances through - Sharkey was rarely called upon in goal and the team finished with all 3 points and a clean sheet!

The Ladies 1’s travelled to Cressex to take on Wycombe - unfortunately despite a goal from Penny Cuthbert they went down 3-1 with Flying making lots of saves to keep the score down to a respectable level in the first half.  The team are improving although results are difficult to come by and this coming weekend friendly against Maidenhead will give them a break from league action to try out some new formations and team selections.

Its better news in the lower divisions, where the 3’s remain unbeaten and top of the league with a continued 100% record.  They ran out 1-0 winners against City of Oxford - Dee Merry getting the only goal of the game.  The 3’s take on Scarlet Runners this Saturday in a friendly at Bradfield at 10am.

Next league action is Saturday 31 October - see the Ladies section for details of the fixtures.
