Summer League starts for Ladies 1’s

Summer League finally started for the Ladies 1’s on Bank Holiday Monday.  They took on Reading 3’s with a developing team of players who will spend the summer trying to get up to speed with what it will take to survive in Prem 2 next season.  Youngsters Charlotte Watt and Lucy Pares found their feet straight away - both looking confident and more than able to hold their own against physical & big hitting opposition.  Emma Jane O’Connor & Jackie Batten also joined the summer 1’s for their first match (being promoted from maternity leave and the 2’s!) to see how they fared.

The game was even throughout the 70 mins (yes a full 70 even at 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday) and finished in a slightly disappointing 2-2 draw, but P&R had some great chances, and the Reading keeper worked the hardest of the 2 to keep her team in the match.  Lucy Pares put P&R 1 up after gambling into the D to pounce on a loose ball.  Reading replied with a scrambled goal which was very nearly cleared off the line, but Rooney got P&Rs second from a short corner strike after wrong footing the Reading keeper and smashing the ball into the bottom left corner.

Reading did pressurise the P&R goal at times and Flying made a spectacular flying save to deny a certain goal, but their pressure paid off as P&R tired and they got the equaliser after a long ball split the defence and left several players unmarked to slide the ball in.

But, so far so good - 1 point which equals last seasons points tally so it can only get better from here!!

Team: Flying, Ade, Polar, Jax, Penny, Charlotte, Ash, EJ, Lucy, Rooney and Maddie L

Best of luck for the next match on 14th June at 8.00pm!!
