P&R 1 - 0 Windsor
After a very focused warm up we were all ready to go…
In the first half we had a few very good chances but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the ball over the line. Windsor had some strong breaks posing some threat to our defense but nothing Flying GK couldn’t handle. It resulted in a 0-0 draw at half time when Julie set us some points for development in the second half ‘Don’t give the ball away!’ an issue that we had all been struggling with. We set up and we were off again…I think we would all agree, although it was not the greatest team performance, our sheer determination finally paid off with 4 minutes away from the final whistle. Rooney sent the ball into the D from the right which was picked up by Maddie who curled it around the keeper using her reverse stick *BANG* and the ball was in! The last 3 minutes was a hard defensive slog but we managed to come away at full time with a 1-0 WIN.
Well done girls!
This was our first tournament of the season and was on the home pitch of Phoenix and Ranalegh. This was the first chance I had as a coach to see how players would cope in a game situation.
We played some really tough sides, but managed to get some really good results because we played very well as a team.
All of the skills and movements on and off the ball that we had been practising were really starting to show. This was also one of the first times we had put a real formation into use. We made use of the diamonds created on the pitch with our captain Bryony controlling the ball distribution who was consistent in all of our matches giving us good stability.
The Top scorer was Josh who showed great determination throughout all the games played. The highlight of all the goals scored by Josh was a diving tap in scoring at an acute angle. Other scorers were Toby, Connor, Dewy and Sophie who all put in great performances.
I would like to make a special mention of Mayer who played outstandingly in all the matches in every position I played her in and was for me the player of the tournament due to countless tackles and passes made and even created the odd chance for herself to score.
Well done to the defence who had mostly clean sheets in all the matches we played. This was thanks to the combined effort of Bryony, Rhodri and Katie who communicated well together and showed great chemistry with each other at the back.
The three up front kept on changing over but all that had a chance to play up front put in a great performance managing to score and create plenty of chances.
Overall I would like to say I’m really proud of everyone who played in the tournament and I’m really looking forward to the next tournaments.
Also I would like to make a special thank you to all the parents that came down and watched in the freezing cold.
Well done to the under 12’s, keep up with the good work!!
Alex (coach)

A local derby. The rain came down but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the boys.
A spirited performance saw some lovely play. The boys were certainly getting used to playing together some lovely skilful play from everyone resulted in a goal for P& R in the first half scored by Andrew, being in the right place on the post to slot home. The second goal came from some lovely play from Bradley, Felix and Jonathan and was finished by Felix. Two – Nil.
Our first win and the boys were on a high.
Player of the Match - Jonathan
We turned up at Newbury looking forward to the match. The Newbury boys had a total of 9 players the P & R players 7 so the boys requested that the coach play with them and play as player 8 & 9. The Newbury Coach was ok with this and we took to the field as coach and players. From a Coaches perspective we learnt a lot.
It was a tight match and the team were clearly gelling and enjoying playing together. There were chances to win the game but in the end Newbury managed to sneak a goal past the post on a short corner.
One nil to them but everyone enjoyed the match.
Player of Match – Mikey
Our first game of the new season, a new coach and new squad.
What do they feed the children in Yately? Our opposition were double the size of the P & R boys but that didn’t stop the boys taking to the field in determined fashion. They put into place the skills and drills that had been taught during the previous weeks training. There was some lovely play and real determination to be proud of.
Though the match ended up with a defeat the boys dug deep and there was much to be positive about.
Player of the Match – Nico
Our first tournament of the season was at Reading Hockey Club and luckily we had nice weather that day(which makes a big difference)
What a great start to the season. All that we had been practising had certainly paid off in their games, the standard of our games certainly did shine through.
We had 5 matches, won 4 and drew 1.
Top scorer for the tournament was Josh Castle, other scorers were Madeline and Bethan, Christian wasn’t with us on this occasion but if he had been goodness knows what the scores would have been.
Fantastic support from the parents as usual.
Well done to the under 10’s, keep up with the good work!!
Bev (Coach )
Due to some recent changes within the boys squad all the coaches and children from both squads
had a meeting & decided that from that moment on or until more changes occur this would now be a mixed squad.
Yateley were given early warning of the potential change and obviously prepared accordingly.
This was P&R’s very first game as a mixed squad without ever playing/training together properly before.
The 15 players chose to roll on and off every 11 minutes or so & have the opportunity to play in different positions.
Yateley chose a similar approach with their 14 players.
We all noticed the increased strength from the opposition since the last time we had played them
Although we had strengthened our own side it was not enough to keep them at bay.
The final score was 6 -2 to Yateley and although a large enough goal difference, this did not reflect the commitment from the P&R players. The coaches were very impressed with how quickly they all began to work together with some excellent passing between them all and in particular some great linked moves within pairs.
Everybody was happy to sub when asked and when on the side line took the opportunity to encourage the others.
The first goal was scored by Beth a very determined mid filed player, and the second from Katie who has just recently moved to a midfield position from playing a defensive role for a long while.
This game also provided the coaches the opportunity to establish players strengths and areas where additional training is required.
The team was Captained by Lucy Plummer, who kept the team focused.
All the players recognised the efforts of Georgia our goalkeeper, as she had some particularly tricky very talented forwards to try and keep at bay.
The squad now has two busy training weeks ahead to build on the team effort and prepare for their next opposition.
It was a lovely crispy & mildly frosty morning when we set off to Yateley.
We arrived nice and early, but soon began to worry as the opposition were no where in sight.
After sending out scouts it was soon established that there was a second pitch in a far sunny spot than where we were!
Although being only 9 players, the team were ready for this game but were also very grateful to Yateley for loaning us several players.
Both teams were evenly matched and hence a lot of running up & down the pitch was enjoyed by most!
At half time we were 0-1 down, & with a slight change to try & sure up the defence we felt confident that we could come back from
this result and win the game.
Unfortunately Yateley were intent in keeping ahead of us and scored an early second goal.
Everybody tried to increase the pressure even with our very back defenders Katie & Cleo making some spectacular runs
all the way up the pitch & into the D but we could just not make contact with the goal.
Laura was also unlucky on several occasions not to score from he well placed right post position.
The game was enjoyed by all even though we could not secure a win.
