Ladies 1s vs South Bucks 1s

After drawing with top of league Bicester last week the team were set for another strong performance against South Bucks who are second in the league. South Bucks started by pressing in our defence and had a quick break that unfortunately resulted in us going down 1-0 at half time. We came back in the second half stronger and as they say practice makes perfect and our hard work at training paid off with a strong over loading attack that allowed Lucia Payne to score from a rebound ball off the keeper (1-1). From here we kept our composure and tried to hold off South Bucks, unfortunately their constant pressure resulted in them scoring their winning goal with 25 seconds until the final whistle. Result 1-2.

Mens 1s went to Wokingham expecting it have a tough game ahead of them, but managed to come away with an impressive 4-1 win.

They started the game very positively with Jonty scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game.  Heads held high it wasn’t long before Jonty strikes again to get his second.  Shortly after Phoenix got the third with a crisp past to JJ to slot it home.  Tom finished it off in the second half to make it 4-0, unfortunately the opposition got a cheap short corner which they slipped past our keeper.
Result: Won 4-1

Ladies 1s Match Report 22.10.11

P&R HC L1’s vs Reading HC L2A’s - 3:2 (22.10.11)

This local derby began at a frantic pace with Phoenix dominating the play in the first 10 minutes. Despite some good attacking play from Phoenix, Reading scored first against the run of play. Phoenix regrouped and pulled level with a goal scored by Ashton Marriott off a short corner. Reading, having had a number of short corners which were successfully defended by Phoenix, then went ahead 2-1 but Rooney equalised with a rebound ball at an awkward angle off a strike by Dawn Collis.

In the second half, (after well-deserved re-fuelling in the form of fruit pastilles) Phoenix scored again with what will undoubtedly prove to be the goal of the season – an incredible reverse stick strike from the edge of the D by Ashton Marriott. With Phoenix determined to hold onto the 3-2 lead, Reading retaliated by putting together a relentless attack which was matched by Phoenix’ dogged defence. In the last few minutes of the game, Reading were quick on the break but were matched by Phoenix defence, determined not to let in a goal no matter what! Tension was high but Phoenix played with control and cool heads to close out the game for a deserved win.

Ladies 1s vs Windsor 15.01.11

January 16th, 2011 · No Comments

P&R 1 - 0 Windsor
After a very focused warm up we were all ready to go…
In the first half we had a few very good chances but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the ball over the line. Windsor had some strong breaks posing some threat to our defense but nothing Flying GK couldn’t handle. It resulted in a 0-0 draw at half time when Julie set us some points for development in the second half ‘Don’t give the ball away!’ an issue that we had all been struggling with. We set up and we were off again…I think we would all agree, although it was not the greatest team performance, our sheer determination finally paid off with 4 minutes away from the final whistle. Rooney sent the ball into the D from the right which was picked up by Maddie who curled it around the keeper using her reverse stick *BANG* and the ball was in! The last 3 minutes was a hard defensive slog but we managed to come away at full time with a 1-0 WIN.
Well done girls!

Match Report U12 Tournament 28th November

December 12th, 2010 · No Comments

This was our first tournament of the season and was on the home pitch of Phoenix and Ranalegh. This was the first chance I had as a coach to see how players would cope in a game situation.

We played some really tough sides, but managed to get some really good results because we played very well as a team.

All of the skills and movements on and off the ball that we had been practising were really starting to show. This was also one of the first times we had put a real formation into use. We made use of the diamonds created on the pitch with our captain Bryony controlling the ball distribution who was consistent in all of our matches giving us good stability.

The Top scorer was Josh who showed great determination throughout all the games played. The highlight of all the goals scored by Josh was a diving tap in scoring at an acute angle. Other scorers were Toby, Connor, Dewy and Sophie who all put in great performances.

I would like to make a special mention of Mayer who played outstandingly in all the matches in every position I played her in and was for me the player of the tournament due to countless tackles and passes made and even created the odd chance for herself to score.

Well done to the defence who had mostly clean sheets in all the matches we played. This was thanks to the combined effort of Bryony, Rhodri and Katie who communicated well together and showed great chemistry with each other at the back.

The three up front kept on changing over but all that had a chance to play up front put in a great performance managing to score and create plenty of chances.

Overall I would like to say I’m really proud of everyone who played in the tournament and I’m really looking forward to the next tournaments.

Also I would like to make a special thank you to all the parents that came down and watched in the freezing cold.

Well done to the under 12’s, keep up with the good work!!

Alex (coach)
